SAMPLES 2014 - 2015
International Film Festival
Join us for a multi-screen evening of international videos and short films, from SAMPLES Mexico 5th Edition at Guest Projects. Curated by altMFA members Maru Rojas & AnnaMaria Kardos.
Rather than try and force a curatorial narrative on a group of such disparate films, we decided to create four groups or sub-categories for the films. That way, we can guide the audience and allow them to make their own conclusions.
The first set of films, to be projected on the wall, sees the subjects navigating against natural forces both physically and philosophically, often in a quest to find meaning.
The second set will be projected on a large screen and the videos speak of a search to locate identity, both in human memory, in the political sphere or in the archive.
A TV screen on a plinth will show films that are cultural investigations, more narrative in style and departing from the body.
Finally, feminist topics, the social and political polarisation within society and its representation in the media are the main threads joining this set of films to be watched intimately on a tablet screen.
SAMPLES is part of AltMFA and Friends International Jamboree at Guest Projects London.
