Alex Chalmers
Biography
Alex Chalmers is an artist based in South East London. His work addresses the specificity and mythology of place through a practice that encompasses installation, object and image making. Present in his work are the traces of his background in architecture, which have transformed into sculptural settings, performance, object and film. Educated at Newcastle University (Fine Art) and the Architectural Association, he now lives and works in Bermondsey. Recent exhibitions include The Jerwood Drawing Prize 2014, Art Licks Weekend 2014, and In Search of the Miraculous (Floating Island). He is a participating member of the artists collective AltMFA since 2012. Past residencies include ‘The Space’ at Gracechurch Street (Departure Foundation), and Floating Island Microresidency.
